Bo Godiva

‘I aim to capture the essence of Australian beach life. I focus firstly on colour, then on the dynamic compositional play between human figures, the ocean’s expanse, and abstracted colour fields. I’m inspired by the joy I feel when I am connected to the ocean's energy and translate energy into colour. I invite the viewer to enjoy coastal life from a new perspective.’
Bo Godiva is a Sydney-based artist whose vibrant paintings celebrate the essence of Australian coastal life. A passionate ocean swimmer, she greets the sunrise with the Bold and Beautiful morning swim, drawing inspiration from the ever-changing interplay of light, water, and human movement. When not immersed in the ocean, she is in the studio, translating these experiences into bold compositions that capture the joy of seaside living.
Bo's artistic practice is deeply rooted in colour theory, influenced by her studies with renowned colourists Cathrine Kehoe and Susan Lichtman. Inspired by early 20th-century Sydney Moderns, such as Roy de Maistre and Grace Cossington Smith, she creates dynamic works where geometric abstraction meets the organic flow of the ocean. Using acrylic on board and palette knife techniques, Bo explores the relationship between human figures, expansive waterscapes, and vibrant colour fields.
Frequently exhibiting at the Affordable Art Fair and The Other Art Fair, Bo's work offers a unique perspective on beach culture, inviting viewers to experience the energy and rhythm of coastal life in a new way. Each painting is an exploration of harmony between colour, geometry, and the natural world, reflecting the deep connection she feels to the ocean.
